#97329 - Newer versions of IC Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Newer versions of MAX232 are "sattisfied" with only 100nF capacitors ! It is then cheaper, smaller and - no worry about polarity.
One pair R1/T1 I use for RxD, TxD, the other, R2/T2 for control signals: DTR from PC to R2in, and CTS from device T2in. DTR signal (from R2out) you can use as request from PC. When the device is ready to communicate, signal CTS (T2out) should become active. Just to add: on RS232 line there are 2 states: Idle, which is a negative voltage (say -12V) and Active, positive (+12V). On the 5V side, the states are made as the opposite: Idle is high and Active is low. Regards, Slobodan |
