I dont know how many agree with me, but I feel that the microcontroller should not be used to drive loads or sink large amounts of current.
This is waay too general. E.g if your thingy has one small LED on the PCB, it would be silly to add a driver just for that. If you stay within a) 1/2 the max total sink current b) whatever load heats the chip 10 degree C c) things on the same PCB there is no reason to jump through hoops to buffer the uC.
