I fail to see how this is faster than just moving the low and high bits to P0 and P2 directly and strobing another pin yourself (bitbang) with the external memory interface disabled.
the source of this discussion was a post about using movx to write 16 bits. You may very well be right that the movx scheme is no better, no faster, just a different flavor. I "saw" the scheme as a change to a non-functioning attempt of using movx to write 16 bits.
