Cone on, this is just a machine and does exactly what it is told to do.
And if you ask it to do something stupid, that's what it will do. This is not a processor problem, it's a programmer problem. That is why the mundane is beautiful. I can have great fun making some code that is absolutely magnificent. I have now learned to throw it away if it is not totally and unequivocally safe against lurking special case bugs. I will work really hard avoiding the actual use of any "smart" code. Please do realize that by avoiding "smart" code I do not mean you should avoid "efficient" code. I once made a product where someone calculated that to test all cases would take about 30 man-years. Even in a case like that we all know that, according to Murphy, a customer will find the case that misfires. Erik |
