#100409 - that may be, but the proposed 12 clocker Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I know Erik doesn't like my proposal, but I think the SiLabs F12x is overkill.
that may be, but the proposed 12 clocker is definitely "underkill". I went all the way, It is always easier to go to a slower uC than to find that you do not have the resources you need. To "save" $10 on a devlopment chip is ridiculous. IMHO SiLabs F300 or F330 is good enough. It's still a 1 clocker, it has 3 PCA channels for PWM, it runs at 24.5MHz without external oscillator and can handle 115k2 at the uart. If all you need to do is receive new setpoints and send them to the PWM channels it will suffice. If you have ANY intention of using other derivatives or ANY previous experience using the '51 STAY AWAY from the f3xx. They are not derivatives, they are deviates. I am sure that if you have no intention of ever using another chip they wil be fine, but in any other case they will confuse the s..t out of you. On the other hand if you want to build only one system, have a look at their C8051F064EK Evaluation kit which is only $25. They've put the usb debug adapter on the board, so you cannot use it for other devices. that may suffice, but again saving a few bucks on a development board does not make sense to me. Erik |
