I was looking into that @#$% datasheet at least 3 times for this feature and I was specifically reading the watchdog section several times and FOUND NOTHING. Neatly hidden in the table, isn't it?
Btw. what revision of the datasheet do you have? I have rev 1, 2 and 3 and seen no newer and in none of them is it on page 46 (although close - 43 and 45). WHAY CAN'T THEY PUT IT WHERE IT BELONGS?! - a mention and a little schematics in the RESET section plus mention it in the desription of the Reset pin? As you wrote, being not aware of the fact it is capable of output might perhaps damage the pin - I think it is common to drive it hard to GND by a supervisor!
