#101682 - Target for newbies?
Responding to: ???'s previous message

I've found Target 3001 to be a good value starter package.

I'm also working on Target, since many years. But I cannot recommend its use for newbies! Target is hanging all the time, and full of bugs. Manufacturer is more interested in selling new and incompatible releases all the time, than to fix all the many bugs. So, with each new release you wonder, what next goes wrong. And you won't be disappointed...
An example: You can tell Target a trace width as standard. Ok, but the next drawn trace width is randomly. Or you tell Target that trace aura is 0.3mm. But the next drawn trace has trace aura of 0mm. So, you have to click on each new trace to check the correct settings. That's disgusting.
Also, scroll wheel does not work since two releases.
Also, you must save the project every two minutes, otherwise you totally loose the control about what you have done so far, especially for bigger projects containing hundreds over hundreds of parts.
Also, project check focuses on mistakes which do not exist. Target tells you a violation of minimum distance between two traces, even if there exists only one trace.
And, and, and, it's endlessly.

The best: If you have finalized your project and want to create the Gerber file, then very strange things can happen. So, you never really know, what you get from your PCB manufacturer...

Well, a professional working since many years on Target has developped a bunch of tricks to circumvent really tragic situations, but a newbie can really feel p..... off. And even for the professional each new release is a real challenge. By the way, newer releases seem to be more buggy than older ones. It's a real mess!

No, it has no to do with my certain PC. Target fails with all PCs, all windows versions and all releases. We have really checked this...
