If he wants to make crap, then why not let him. He may just have looked in his parts bin and found he has a 16C550 and wants to use it. I don't like the thing because of the big ugly package, but if that's what he's got, why not help him figure out how to do it?

Which external UART would YOU recommend with his 80C51?
