We have some professors who are blatant plagarists too. They "write" textbooks by simply copying major chunks from one of the classics(Openheim and Shaeffer, Malvino etc). One of them here is so shameless, he get his students to do the copying.
Before internet, the IEEE journals were the most popular source for thesis material, giving a whole new meaning to the word research.
So for some it might be a case of pot calling....
