I can't believe you're asserting that a 1000% increase in programming time doesn't matter. If you program automatically before installing the MCU, then it takes about 3 seconds per part, including labelling. I also can't believe that you can set up and program a board via ISP in 30 seconds. Now multiply that difference by the 10k boards you're producing, and tell me that your employer doesn't care about that cost.
