I would tend to agree - to make it "flexible enough and universal enough" could well end up requiring so many configuration options that it'd be easier to just write the code than to try to understand them all!


(i.e., "applicable to enough 8051 variants")

Not just that:
  • it would also have to be applicable to different compilers & versions;
  • it would also have to be configurable to different trade-offs between code size & execution speed
  • etc, etc?

    And what about the people (both of them) that want it in Pascal...?
