I dare say it will most likely work well in the conditions you describe. But it is still a shortcut. What will you do when you REALLY need to solve the problem? Why not figure out how to do it properly now? If the data is coming from a PC - it is a hassle to get the proper enable timing. Two solutions I use on a daily basis are: ADAM4561 USB->485/RS232 converter. The hardware takes care of the RS485 direction. FTDI FT232RL and MAX485 - these two chips do the USB->serial. The FTDI chip has an output that does the 485 direction. |
