#133560 - Try a datasheet
Responding to: ???'s previous message
If you'd read a datasheet for any of the 74xxx types and compared with the 4000-series, you'd know that the 4000-series is slow by comparison with the 74xxx series.

If speed is your concern, you should probably focus on 74AC or ACT logic.

If you want your "ROM" to be fast, you'll build it with a PROM, which, typically is bipolar, using tungsten fuse technology which, once programmed, doesn't change. I'd expect a typical 256x8 PROM to have an access time from nCS of about 35 ns. Back when I used 'em from time to time, they cost about $1.
