The LSxxx series was the "coolest" of the bipolar types, aside from the 74Lxxx series, but the 74C, 74AC, 74ACT, 74HC 74HCT, 74HCTLS, 74AHCT, 74FC, 74FCT, and a few others all ran at lower temperature if the clock rates were equal. Even the 74BCT varieties were less prone to heating.
If he could touch 'em without producing a sizzling noise, they weren't that hot. We used to say that if the wet finger sizzled, the parts were at the top of the commercial temperature range, and if the dry finger sizzled, then they were at the top end of the military temperature range. If any of the CMOS TTL-workalikes get that hot, they're being abused. RE |
