I realise WHY they recommend disabling writes to CHPCON as soon as the auxram writing is enabled/disabled - The two lsbs of CHPCON force flashing entry into application or boot ROM areas, so are fairly critical. That's also the reason for the cryptic enabling of CHPCON writes - rather than the fairly benign action of enabling auxram writing.
