by tansfer char. you mean the maximum forward current that it can take when the LED is on right ?my IC 6n137 in this case ? going by that a 500ohm resistor would do fine as it places the current at 10 ma safely between 6.3ma and 15ma range. I hope i have inferred your post correctly.
