#140087 - What is "Internal"?
Responding to: ???'s previous message

I've not yet seen an 805x with internal memory addressable as XDATA memory

Like the two ladies yelling across the street, you and Erik are never going to reach agreement because you are arguing from different premises!

The word "Internal" is ambiguous here:

  • I presume Richard is taking it to mean "Internal to the 8051 Core" - ie, DATA/IDATA

  • Erik, on the other hand, seems to be taking it to mean "Internal to the chip" - thus on-chip XRAM is "internal" to the chip, though still architecturally "external" to the 8051 Core.

There are plenty of variants with on-chip XRAM

Which, from a physical construction point of view, is "internal" to the package!
