The fact is that the ['V51RD2-style] autobaud is usefull in some cases and problematic in others.
I don't know if designers at Philips/NXP thought about it, but I'm having problem with this "feature". What happens is that uP goes to programming mode when master application tries talking to uP board when uP is booting. Well, I think, NXP simply took what SST had ready at that time... But, nevertheless, I thought more on it; and I think the "autobaud-until-timeout" method can be improved at least a bit - if after the successful autobaud the bootloader expects a certain sequence of bytes and would exit from boot to user code upon receiving anything else... Of course, the "certain sequence" would be set so that it matches the typical action of FM after autobaud, so that this makes no work for Andy... Comments? JW |
