NXP issued the updatedbootloader v7 - as Andy said above, documentation is included in the zip.

And, as the bootloader is in FLASH, assuming you'll believe me that it is identical to the SST chip I never remember the exact marking (but is easy to look up) and for which the not-castrated datasheet contains the complete FLASH programming description, you can roll out your own bootloader, with any feature you might wish (you did not try the mod I made a couple of years ago implementing the '485 turnaround, did you?... :-) ).

Of course, there is also always available the way Lorenzo lined out (to rely on the user application for entering the programming mode), which is independent on the type of bootloader and flash particularities - just a bit more risky.
