... the difference could be told relatively easily. The battery is integrated in one package with the RAM, so it's enough to pull it out of the circuit (if it's socketed of course) and try it in some decent way. Some of the device programmers (our Elnec certainly does) have NVRAM reading and "burning" facilities, for example.
