but, if you can afford it, why not spend $50 or so for a MCB900 or - even better - $99 for a SILabs F120DK.
You do not say much about your HW experience and if you consider the cost of PCB, soldering Iron etc, these boards smell like a bargain.

Both come as complete hardware with (limited) compiler assembler linker, the SILabs board has ICE functionality.
