#147472 - 8051 and RS485 Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I use both RS232 and RS485 on my board. Basically RS485 is balanced RS232. My micro is a 89C52 with an SPI port et al. I connect the desired number of UARTs (MAX3100CEE) to the SPI port connect the CS pins to their own I/O port of the micro. The MAX208 is used for the RS232 ports and a SP331 (Sipex) is used to translate from UART to RS485. I use this device because it can be configured to RS232 also. Don't forget the TVS diodes and balance resistors for protection on the lines that go off-board. The RS485 connectors are RJ45's. I have a schematic if you'd like an example.
