balance resistors for protection
now it is Balance resistors are not meant for termination or current limiting they're meant to maintain a DC balance between the +/-Tx and +/-Rx lines and no they do not violate any part of the RS485 standard. which is still wrong The 750/130/750 gives a safe idle and terminates the line they offer no kind of 'protection' whatsoever. If "Balance resistors are not meant for termination", how do you propose to terminate the line? If you want to know more about the standards so you can plan better this is a good place to start. Seems a resonable link (although they repeat the urban legend about full duples 485) however, why go that far, all you need is in the FAQ right here and the link you will find there. There is no better reference than the National Semi appnote "ten ways to bulletproof RS485" which the link will take you to. Erik |
