None, I was just asking if someone would use that. I was also assuming a micro that needed to talk to a host computer via USB and the chips were there already.

I'm trying very hard to find a good reason to use a surface mount micro, but with these programming issues, I might as well use a DIP 89C2051 in a socket like I have already been doing.

Of course, for mass (or, for that matter, slightly less than mass - mass production implies device programmer which would presumably use a faster parallel programming algorithm) production of certain grade of products it does make sense.

ICP via a built-in connector (which can take form of just a set of test points on the PCB) provides means of initial factory programming. ISP is then the means of field upgrade.
