#149790 - yes I know
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Yes, I know that. I was just responding to your comments about pads on the PCB for ICP. If a LPC903 could be programmed ICP with just pads and no jumpers, and then work by talking to a host PC through the UART and USB virtual serial port chip, that could work.

But the question in my original post was, "Why can't you just put some chips on a board, plug in to the USB, and ISP a chip". I guess this is not commonly done.

I thought that someone would answer by saying LPC9xx, where xx is the simplest one that can do ISP, but you were also telling me the dangers of ["suicide" on a soldered-down LPC9xx] so I guess it is not a good idea.

I build in low production quantities, so I do not differentiate between "production programming" and "field updates".
