Absolutely!

So, for instance, with the Triscend you had a completely user-customisable set of peripherals, yet all you needed to do was pick a few SFR addresses and any standard 8051 code generator was none the wiser!

The only slight problem seems to be with the likes of SiLabs who cram-on so many goodies that they run out of SFR addresses!
