#151609 - the "industrial strength" 485 transciever Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I use the LT1785 in such applications. What a wonderful chip.
Yes, that is the "industrial strength" 485 transciever, indeed "a wonderful chip". I use it whenever I have fixed termination. One installer screwed up, called for service, and left it connected. That chip survived a 28V differential input voltage (gnd and +28 - no current limit) for days and just worked after the wiring was fixed, the termination resistors, of course, had to be replaced. Although it would not have helped in the above instance, we have doubled the wattage of the termination resistors so they will withstand as much as the chip (when the abuse only last a few microseconds) For "auto termination" I use the LT2861, not quite as robust, but still a lot better than using a reed relay for the auto termination.
