As per my knowleadge all receipt printers are thermal printers only.

And i think thermel printer will be a good choice for your project.

This guys make really good thermal printers. Most of them either have serial port or USB port.

Why you want to connect Microcontroller to thermal printer?
Please explain your requirements in more detail.
