You cannot possibly work from just that - you need a better specification!

At the very least, you need to sit down with your boss and discuss this.
Preferably, he should provide a written specification of the requirement. Failing that, you should document your understanding of the requirement, and present it to him.

if I am not wrong then all applications uses thermal printers.

I think you are wrong - impact printers are also quite common in those sorts of applications.
