#158020 - To Be Fair Look at All
Responding to: ???'s previous message
To be fair to Microchip I think you have to go look at ALL of their various I2C Serial EEPROM data sheets. They have MANY types and vary by subtle changes in the part numbers. Some ignore the A0.A1.A2 pins whilst others decode them. There are still others that ignore the WP pin while others do support the WP pin. And to that end they even have a family that supports a software controllable type of Write Protect using an alternate slave address to the part to set the write protect register!!

It really is up to the design engineer to specify which manufacturers parts are acceptable for use in a particular design. If second sources are desired then the list of manufacturer sources for each part on the BOM should be listed on an approved manufacturer list.

The lesson learned here is an important one. Not all ICs with similar looking part numbers are created equal.
