#15832 - i2c interrupt controller
philips makes an i2c i/o expansion chip that has a level interrupt output covering the 8 i/o lines.

if your interrupt response time is not critical, you could use it and maintain a minimized 8051 pinout.

the chips were about $2.00 last time I looked. they shouldn't cost but half that but that's business.
