I wouldn't worry too much. It's probably homework.

I'd not rely on after-market products without considerable caution. I had Sears install one of their cruise controls, many years ago, of course, and it was a piece of junk. I've heard similar stories regarding other after-market products of this type. They are not nearly so simple to design and integrate into the workings of an already-built automobile as one might hope.
