The Audi situation destroyed quite a number of garages, yet never made the newspapers. I think I heard about those garages. Wasn't that because you could (try to) start the engine with the clutch engaged and and the manual transmission set to one of the forward gears, which would cause the car to lurch forward through the garage wall? That only happens in a country where most of the population isn't familiar with stick shifters and the wall of the garage is made of cardboard and plaster. ;) This making the newspapers would be fairly embarassing. And I think the manual does contain the correct procedure for starting the engine, which includes the points "fully depress clutch pedal" and "put transmission in neutral" before "turn ignition key". |
