#17800 - RE: 8051s To The Rescue, Craig
Hi Craig,

Yes, you are right that those home appliances, consumer electronics stuff do not need a Palm to do that. Infact, I can't see how a Palm being used for CD-player, air-con (Hee hee,I'm not going to pay for that extra nice looking fella) and etc.

As many people here has asked about the stack for IrDA and TCP, I even seen one post as saying "Tell me how much you going to earn from the product before asking how much does it cost to have a IrDA stack". What I'm trying to bring across is that, if you are trying to built something similar to Palm, it's better off buying one from them (if the application justified) since most of the requested lib is in there.

In my country, there's a project whereby employees need to swap their identification card in a gantry to log down their attendance, in that application, they have used a Palm housed behind a glass plane as a interface which is pretty nice and cost effective. In this situation, I would certainly agree in using a Palm to do that since looks does matter for that. Next, it's easier to maintain in the event LCD burn out or other faults. As other models of Palm can immediately filled in the slot without the fear of obsolete of a particular model.

All in all, there's still room for uC development, how much more, I can't answer that, but at least big enough to make this great forum in my favourites.

Best Regards
Andy
