PCI System Arthitecture by MindShare is a nice book and I found it better than the PCI Speck !!! as the PCI Speck from PCI-SIG are very cryptic (well I found it that way ).
Pls read an article on "PCI Bus Prototyping Card" in "elektor-electronics". It was in May 2001 issue in India and may be Feb 2001 else where.
I think the author was using ispLSI1032E
