I agree with Rob but you can have over current protection so that you don't allow the current of the 7812 to exceed 24mA.
Use current sense resistor and OP-AMP to turn regulator off if current exceeds 24 MA. If you like to complicate things up use this approach, while if you want simple approach do as Ras mentioned. A resistor and a zener, no need for 7812. Best Regards Mahmood |
