There is a thing called freshness seal on many DS NV devices. When freshness seal is invoked, the battery is disconnected from the RAM. This is what the factory does when they manufacture the devices so that the battery doesn't discharge while the units are on the shelf.
To invoke freshness seal, you must raise the level of one of the logic pins above VCC. This may be what's happening when you switch the device on. Jon |
