I Once Tried To Do Such Thing. With Lazer.
But there was a problem, that from far away, you lose
focus, all the pixel scrambled.
when I use other kind of lasers, u didn't see it from far,
because the dots were too small.
in theory, it works fine.
in fact, it will work fine also, if u have alot of money to spend on it, (such as startup company badget)
Also, theres a problem to find the equpment to measure the
power of the beam, and current.....
i donot recommend you to get into this subjects.
