Another extremely helpful book to get is "The Microcontroller Idea Book" by Jan Axelson.

It costs less than $40.00 and is full of information on exactly what you are asking about. It even gives you the circuits for a development system and circuits for ISP devices. In fact it even gives you an on board circuit for programming EPROMs.

Also it is quite informative concerning Inputs and Outputs and a whole world of other 8052 things.

It is primarily based on the 80C52-BASIC chip from Micromint since BASIC is an easy lanquage to work with.

However, you can apply everything except the BASIC programming information to pretty much all 8052 devices and 8051 based devices.

Hope this helps. By the way I use the 8052 in industrial machine controls. Mostly it is used to create an inexpensive PLC to replace the relay logic on older machines that I retro fit.
