Certainly with the old V1.1 8052-ahbasic, the memories had to be mapped in an odd way to let the RAM space work in ROM space. Usually that meant putting an AND gate on the PSEN and RD lines so that any access to memory basically pulled the RAM RD down in the space from 0 to Ramtop. EPROMs were placed at 8000H and driven with PSEN.
