It's worth it if you want to give yourself a reason to learn about CAN. Otherwise, 485 is reliable and easy to implement with standard chips and UARTS. Simple but very good.

(There is a a curve between baud rate and line distance though - from memory, you are OK to about 9k6bauds over 100m. Don't know the story for CAN, maybe be faster over the same distance. Depends what you need.)
