First off, Happy New Year. I hope an enjoyable holiday season was had by all. Having officially not done Christmas/New-Year this year and working all the way through, can't say I've been too jolly, but I won't wallow in self-pitty (ex-boss Steve Taylor never sympathises when I do that anway). So then, getting to the point...

Currently considering the design of an 8mm telecine machine (more accurately, a high-resolution 36-bit colour 8mm film scanner for a PC) for Pro8mm and Super8 film based on TI's TC2081 8x8mm 1000x1000 pixel CCD. Does anyone have any experiences they would like to share concerning the interface of a CCD with a '52 (either directly or through glue-logic/ASIC/whatever)?

If possible directly, is an 8052 upto the task of providing accurate enough timing to yield consistant exposure times etc. on a per pixel basis?

Frame rate is not much of an issue for my application as the film scanning can occur at whatever speed is required. Obviously though, control of exposure is important. I want to do my A/D conversion at 12-bits per colour. Scanning will occur in 3 passes (R, G, then B) per frame by filtering the backlight behind the film to the appropriate colour at the appropriate time.
