I have used 1 MHz oscillator can (crystal and electronics chip all in one package) for many years. In one design the oscillator drives clock to 2 each 16V8, 1 22V10 and 5 each 20V8. Works like a champ. Incidently the oscillator in that design also went to 5 channels of two 82C54 timer chips.
