Peter:1MHz was damned fast for the slow 4000 series at only 5V.
The 40... chips are probably still in use for the same reason as the 82.. chips. Many ancient designs are still touted in schools and on the internet as "state of the art". The 74HC(T) chips have been around for long enough that the use of the 40.. chips should have ceased. Oh, by the way, I just see a potential use for the 40.. chips: rounding of pulses. Erik |
