#39772 - RE: Saving pins idea
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Again, if you need the pins and your RAM requirement is less than 8k, why go through the hassle. If you use a chip with ERAM (depending on derivative 256 bytes to 8kb) and FLASH, you free up P0 and P2, leaving you with 18 more port pins. Now you wonder where did I get 18, it is ports 0 and 2 = 16 pins P3.6 and p3.7 are just good ol' port pins in this case (not !RD and !WR).

Examples of such chips
P89C51RD2 64k FLASH 768 bytess ERAM
P89C668 64k FLASH, 8k ERAM

Many chips with ERAM have the added advantage of being In System Peogrammable.

I have a circuit based on the P89C668, the difference:
8952, small CPLD for ALE latch and 12 I/O beyond P1, 8k SRAM chip, 232. Large PCB, Chip COST : $25
89C668: uC and 232. Small PCB, Chip COST : $10
