I have so far developed a trial application that runs only one segment of 7 x 5 matrix from one 2051 and two 4094 ICs.

The problem I had was the brightness of the matrix. It showed something only in the darkness.

I Had in mind ULN2003 for anodes (columns) and ULN2074 for cathodes (rows).

but I used npn transistors instead, Only 12 as switches. It made the display so bright that even below a 100 watt lamp you could see it from a distance.

Now we can embark on the proper project.
