------------------------------- Is it possible to also involve a geology student? Maybe for the 3 watts to drive the relay station a geo-thermal solution may be applicable. Too much digging. Clearly a battery based system with a solar panel and/or wind generator for recharging is possible. You ain't kidding Mike, the site is situated on the first major hills after the Atlantic, and windspeeds SUSTAIN in excess of 90 mph in fairly "normal" conditions. I see from the web page for the centre that there is a stream at the bottom of the valley. Is the path of the comm link able to traverse the direction of the stream. You could harness a power source off the water flow in the stream. Sadly no, its in exactly the opposite direction. It would have been a good solution. No I think it'll have to be wind powered. Another last thing to consider is the achievable distance with the 802.3 comm link. Thanks for the link Mike. Do you get any significant diffraction with 802.11 ? If it would diffract, we could bend it a bit perhaps, but at 2.4 gig, I doubt it'll work. In distance terms, we are probably looking at only 2000 feet, 1000 feet from link to relay to link Steve |
