Its always the way,you only ever get half the story,I suggest that you use some proper schematic entry software such as eagle from cadsoft.de and lay it out for yourself,it is quite possibleto do on single layer,it wont be pretty,but its not quite as bad as people make out.
The thingabou eagle isits easy to use,its free and it works properly which is more than you can say for most schematic entry software.
