Have you looked into this? If that were to work in 8 bit mode I would think you can save youeself a number of external chips (or a good sized hunk of CPLD).


As far as I remember the 8-bit support has been dropped in recent versions of the ATA specs, which probably means only old drives will support it. Does anybody know for sure?

And anyway the number of external chips isn't that great. I have only used a pair of '574 latches to add the 16-bit support...
