The first reason is that I didn't know it existed... But it looks like the IDE interface works the same way as my circuit (but with internal latches). But what does a chip like that cost? It's probably more expensive than the $0.5 Siemens chip I use now ;-)

And I don't really need the MP3 part. If it had a high quality A/D converter I could be interested...
